Rules of the Competition

1. Collect as many controls as possible within your chosen time, penalties for late return.
2. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult. 16 & 17 year olds can compete without an adult, but only with the written consent of a parent or guardian.
3. Pairs must stay together at all times. Shadows should not participate in decision-making or share any of the tasks, such as recording answers.
4. You must not go onto private property, or across any out of bounds areas. Also you must only take routes that are explicitly shown on the map. **See more on this rule change**
5. Credit will not be given for "punching errors" so make sure you:

• Have a reasonable light
• Record your answer in the correct box
• Read the answer carefully
• Write the answer down clearly
• If wet conditions, if necessary, protect your map & answer sheet with a poly bag and use a pencil

6. Credit will be given for "planning errors", as long as it is reasonable to believe that you have visited the control in question. e.g.

• Controls that are wrongly marked on the map
• Controls that are difficult to read despite a reasonable light
• Clues that are ambiguous
