SROC Ceilidh Saturday 2nd February 2008

South Ribble Orienteering Club is venturing into new territory with the organization of its inaugural SROC Ceilidh. It would be lovely to see as many members of South Ribble as possible present and if it is a success, who knows? it may the first of many.

If you are a regular at folk festivals and ceilidhs, you will know what fun it is getting up and joining in Scottish and English folk dances and American square dances.

If you are not, be assured this is not like the confusion of line dancing or ballroom dancing where everyone in the room - everyone except you, that is - knows exactly which steps to do to which tune. At ceilidhs an experienced caller leads you effortlessly through graded dances starting from the simplest and graduating to the more complex and at least some of the dances will be new to even the most regular folk concertgoers.

The event will be at the handily-placed Kirkland and Catterall Memorial Hall, Churchtown near Gartang (corner of A586 Blackpool Road and the A6) on Saturday 2nd. February 2008. The Moregate Ceilidh Band will play between 7:30 and 11:00pm. A hot pot supper is included in the admission price of £10 for adults and £5 for juniors and there will be a bar where you can buy drinks.

Tickets will go on sale on 1st. January. I shall be selling tickets at the New Year Cracker. Look for me on a table in the open air if the weather is suitable or from the inside of my car (a navy Skoda) if not. I shall also be selling tickets at the first two Street-Os on the 9th. and 16th. of January and at the CompassSport Cup on the 13th. Rowena Browne and David Hargreaves will be selling tickets at the Handicap on the 12th. January. Make cheques payable to "SROC".
