April 2007
29.04.07 First Aid Course
MDOC are organising a first Aid Course for BOF coach level 3. Previous
courses have been well received. The course will be on Sat/Sun 13-14th
October at Lyme Park from 9 - 5.30 each day. The course will take place
indoors and outdoors. Price for non MDOC orienteers from the NW will be
around £70 each. If you are interested please get in touch with Margaret Gregory,
17 Mersey Meadows, Manchester M20 2GB (further info 0161 445 5653).
29.04.07 Harvester Relays
The Harvester Relays take place at Penhale Sands (North Cornwall) starting late on Saturday 2nd June and finish early in the morning on Sunday 3rd June.
As we’re the current Harvester Handicap Trophy holders it would be nice to go down and defend our title (even if it is such a long way away).
There is a junior trophy (5 people all M/W20-) so younger runners are welcome BUT remember it is mainly an adult race and all legs will be TD5 (green standard) and will be of adult course length.
A team comprises of either 5 or 7 members (to defend our title we need 7 runners with ages that match the handicap). This covers day and night legs of varying difficulty.
Entries need to be in by 14th May so could you please contact Sarah
Watkins if you’re interested asap and no later than the 7th May.
29.04.07 www.sroc.org webteam
As you may have heard, the current Webmaster, David Kesby, will be handing over
the job before moving south at the end of May. The new set up is an
expanded webteam who will play different parts in maintaining the website.
The new webteam system will start in the next few weeks, although as readers of
the website, you are likely not to notice any change initially. All email
can be sent to webmaster@sroc.org as
normal. Any emails to this address will be forwarded to the right member
of the team. If you wish to send an email to everyone in the team, then
use webteam@sroc.org which will be sent to
every team member. Once the team takes over in full confirmation of who is
doing what will be announced.
22.04.07 Congratulations Becca
The Future
Champions Cup final held in the
Midlands today. Becca Roberts was overall series winner, and winner of the
finals weekend as well. This means that she will have secured a place on
the JWOC team in
Australia
in July. Better get some sunglasses ready Becca!
22.04.07 Simpson Ground - Results
Check out the results from today's
District event. We've also set up Route Gadget for this event. This
is a great way to compare your routes with others and to view how you competed
with a nifty animation! Why not add your own route, and see how this will
help your technique (and have a bit of fun too!)
22.04.07 SROC Cycle Ride - 13th May
Martyn and Sue Roome are organising a cycle ride from Clitheroe on 13th May,
when there is no other orienteering events laid on. This was a great
success last year - you can see the photo's
if you want! See fixtures for
more.
15.04.07 District Event - Simpsons Ground
Just a reminder of this event on 22nd April to the east of Windermere.
Simpsons Ground is classic Lake District wood and fell, and is a fantastic area
for challenging orienteering at all levels. With other Lake District
amenities local for after the event, why not bring your friends and family and
make a day of it?
15.04.07 Summer Series coming soon
It's been great to see so many newcomers to this winter's Street League.
Well, for all those people and anyone else out there who enjoys getting out in
the evening for some orienteering, we have the answer for you come June
13th. Five events have been organised for June and early July by both SROC
and SELOC for this year's Summer League. Like Street League, it provides a
competitive, yet informal orienteering event, but without the frosts and
tarmac! This is done on balmy summer's evenings or on Sunday mornings in
wood/park land. So check out the Fixtures
and put the five dates in your diary.

01.04.07 Longer Evenings - Wednesday Runs!
The forwarding of the clocks heralds the start of the Wednesday evening runs in
SROC. All the runs are on the fixtures
list. They are a lovely run - for all capabilities - and held in some
of the most beautiful countryside Lancashire has to offer. So try them
out, and take a few pennies for some socialising afterwards.
01.04.07 Great Results for SROC at BUSA
Two SROC members had excellent
results at the British University Sports Association Orienteering
Championships 2007. Becca Roberts came in with a fantastic 2nd place on
the Women's A course whilst David Roome had a great 8th place on the Men's A
course. Well done both of them from the club.
