SROC Regional Event - Final Details

Start Block times now available - remember, please be at bus pick-up point 45 mins before you are due to start.

VENUE:- Between Torver and Broughton in Furness, Cumbria. Access from the A 593 

TRAVEL:- From Torver nr Coniston, follow the A593 SW towards Broughton in Furness. Directions will be signed from this road. Please share transport if possible.

ASSEMBLY & PARKING:- Due to heavy rain in October, assembly and car parking may be further from the start/finish
than originally planned and involve some bussing to the start. Allow an extra ½ hr on your travel time. Compass Point and Wilfs will be in attendance.  There will be a £2.50p per car combined parking and bus fee.

REGISTRATION:- From 0900 to 1200hrs. (Starts 9.30 to 12.30) All pre-entries with your own E-card should go straight to the start via Bus Pick-up Point. Colour Coded eod is £4 / £1.50. (white, yellow, orange and light green) Free String Course.

BADGE LATE ENTRY / EOD will be accepted whilst map stocks allow. You may E-mail or ‘phone your standard entry details to reserve a map. Payment with SEF information to Dave (cheque payable to SROC £9.50 / £4 jun / £25 fam ) must follow immediately to keep the map. Late internet entries, including the late surcharge, will be taken until 12th Nov.

E-PUNCHING :- All courses except String will use Sport Ident (SI) electronic controls. E-cards can be hired from registration. (50p) Loss of E-card will require a £17 payment.

SAFETY :- Competitors take part at their own risk. Whistles are strongly advised. Cagoules may be compulsory. (notified at registration) Competitors travelling alone are requested to leave their car keys at registration, with their details

DOGS :- On a lead and in the Car Park / Assembly field and String Course only.  This is sheep country.

MAP :- Based on the M Bagness map of 1993 c SROC, recently transferred to OCAD. 1 :10,000 for all courses. 5m contour interval.  The map size is A3 for courses 1 to 6 and A4 for all others.

TERRAIN :- Open fell for all courses, except J M/W 1,2 & 3 and colour coded courses, where some runnable woodland is included towards the finish. The terrain is mostly exposed open fells and liable to bad weather conditions. The area is SSSI
and English Nature request that you avoid running through wet and boggy areas.  See Planners Notes for more.

COURSE DETAILS :- Badge and CC classes 1 to 14 (see Planners Notes) All courses close at 2.30pm

CONTROL DESCRIPTIONS :- Written descriptions for Colour Coded and JM/W 1 &2. Standard IOF symbols for all others.
Printed on the map, available and also available via the Planners Notes.

CONTROL SITES :- Control kites will be hung from canes with the control unit on the ground, attached to the kite by a chord.  See the ‘Planners’ notes’ with the Control Descriptions.

CROSSING POINTS :- Only marked crossing points must be used.  JM/W 1,2 &3 and W, Y & O cc competitors and adults advising these please note that these competitors must not cross the ladder stiled wall at the east end of their courses. This wall is a safety boundary for these courses. See planners notes for more

START :- There is a single start for all courses, waymarked from assembly and bus drop off point. Allow 20 minutes from the bus drop off system. Depending on the final location of assembly/parking the walk to the start could be up to 4km, mostly downhill. First bus departs from assembly at 08.50am.  All courses will use a punching start. Pre-entered competitors will be allocated start times in blocks, between 9.30 and 12.30 Actual start times will be allocated at the start.  Early start blocks will be given to the longer courses.  A flexible system will operate with further information provided at assembly.
The maps will be overprinted, including control descriptions, and in sealed bags, for all courses including Colour Coded. JM/W 1 & 2 and White and Yellow courses will be available for inspection in the Assembly/Registration area.  There is a clothing drop point on the way to the start, through which competitors will return after the finish, (bring your own marked plastic bag) except for JM/W 1, 2 & 3, White, Yellow, and Orange, who finish at a different location. These competitors should not deposit clothing at this pre-start location.

FINISH & DOWNLOAD :- There are 2 finishes. The main finish is near the start and is for all courses except JM/W 1,2 &3 and White, Yellow & Orange. These courses finish in the woodland to the south. The return to the bus pick-up point is a short walk along a minor road. Watch out for traffic on the road. There will be no drinks at either finish.  Don’t forget to ‘punch’ at the finish and download asap and even if you retire.

STRING COURSE :- The free string course will be located close to assembly and may not be suitable for pushchairs.
