New Guidelines for Colour Coded Events

This is an extract from the GUIDELINE for planning COLOUR CODED EVENTS.  It was introduced along with new JUNIOR course combinations.  It is also intended to encourage PLANNERS to bring the BLACK COURSE into events.

COLOUR CODED TECHNICAL DIFFICULTY DISTANCE
Black 5 9.0+
Brown 5 7.5 +/- 15%
Blue 5 5.5 +/- 15%
Green 5 4.0 +/- 15%
Lt Green 4 3.3 +/- 20%
Orange 3 2.6 +/- 20%
Yellow 2 2.0 +/- 20%
White 1 1.5 +/- 20%
Purple 3 7.5+
Red 3 3.5 / 7.5

NOTE:  For courses below BLACK, the length should be reduced if the height climb is greater than 3%.  For every 10m of extra climb, the length should be shortened by 100m.  If the terrain is Tec. 5, then the GREEN should be less than 4k.

After considerable discussion at a Club Meeting, LOC would like to propose that all member clubs of NWOA adopt the above guidelines "whenever practical" and without "undue imposition on planners" at all colour coded events from the beginning of 2004.

Also we feel that the provision of two yellow courses of slightly different composition is useful to new starters and should be provided again "where possible".
