Nordic Orienteering Championships

The Nordic Orienteering Championships (NOC) were first held in Sweden in 1955, and until 1988 were restricted to residents of the Nordic countries. From 1995 the championships have been staged every two years. The last championships, staged in Finland, saw participants from 21 countries take part in the Junior, H/D20 and H/D21 classes. Away from the elite classes, there is always a programme of spectator events.

Other news centres around the Swedish and Norwegian teams.

Only 3 of the 10 man Swedish team have elected to run in the Sprint race, believing that by missing the race, it will give them a better chance in Friday's Classic competition.

News from the Norwegian camp, is that both the reigning champion Jörgen Rostrup, and Bernt Björnsgaard, will miss the competition due to illness. However, the Norwegians have been boosted by the return of multi-world medallist Hanne Staff, who missed the 10-Mila through illness.
